Nursing Interventions: Kaposi’s Sarcoma
- Listen to the patient’s fear and concerns and answer question promptly.
 - If the patient has painful lesions, help him into a more comfortable position.
 - Administer pain medication as ordered.
 - Suggest distractions and help the patient with relaxation techniques.
 - Supply the patient with high-calorie, high-protein meals.
 - Provide rest periods if the patient tires frequently.
 - Inspect the patient’s skin every shift. Look for new lesions and skin breakdown.
 - Be alert for adverse effects of radiation therapy or chemotherapy such as anorexia, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea and take steps to prevent or alleviate them.
 - Monitor the patient for signs and symptoms of gastrointestinal or respiratory function.
 - Offer emotional support to help the patient and family cope with the diagnosis and prognosis.
