(To stretcher or vice versa)
Method I: (When patient is strong)
- Replace the top sheet with blanket.
- Draw the patient to the side of the bed.
- Place stretcher parallel to bed.
- Steady stretcher and let patient roll or side over on it.
Method II: (With the help of the patient and nurse assisting:
- Replace the top sheet with blanket.
- Draw patient to the side of the bed; flex her knees.
- Draw stretcher parallel to bed.
- Stand on free side, reach across it and place the patient’s feet on the stretcher, keeping her knees flexed.
- Pass one arm slightly flexed, behind her head and far shoulder in such a manner that the head is supported and your hand extends into the axilla on the far side.
- Puss your other arm under tile thigh.
- Lift her slightly (let her know when you are ready to do so) and draw her on to the stretcher. Lower her legs on the stretcher and arrange her comfortable.
Methods III: (If patient is helpless and 3 nurses are needed):
- Place the bed and stretcher parallel to each other leaving enough space for the movement of the nurses, (head of stretcher opposite foot of bed.)
- Replace top sheet with blanket.
- Place patient’s arms across her chest.
- Lifters stay on same side of bed.
Nurse I support patient’s head and shoulders.
Nurse II places one arm under the back and under buttocks.
Nurse III support thighs and legs (When the patient has injured leg, it is often necessary for one person to be responsible solely for its support).
- Lift in unison rolling patient into chests, move in union rolling patient into chests, move unison to stretcher and lower slowly simultaneously.
Method IV:
Same method as III but only the bed and stretcher are at right angles with each other, i.e., fool of bed with the head of the stretcher.
