Nursing Interventions for Ascariasis

  1. Isolation is not needed.
  2. Explain all tests and treatments to the patient.
  3. Administer ordered medications such as Albendazole 400mg.       Other drug choices are mebendazole, and pyrantelpamoate. These medications may betaken for one to three days as ordered.
  4. Enforce preventive measures to patients and in each home and in the community (also to prevent reinfection)
  • Teach all members of the family of health matters – such as how to wash their hands before handling food, how to wash thoroughly all fruits and vegetables eaten raw, and how to perform effective sewage disposal.
  • Ensure availability of toilet facilities.
  • Explain the importance of personal hygiene.
